Beningfield’s Vanishing Songbirds with text by Betty Beningfield.
A wonderful tribute to the watercolour paintings and
sketches of the late Gordon Beningfield – surely the greatest countryside
artist of his generation?
After his early death it was decided, in consultation with
Betty, his widow, to finish the projects he was working on – “Beningfield’s
Vanishing Songbirds” and “Beningfield’s Orchards” (now out of print).
Gordon was a remarkable man – a fighter for wildlife, the
country way of life and conservation. He was desperately worried by the threats
facing our well loved birds and this book is a tribute to them. Gordon was
Vice-Chairman of the Countryside Restoration Trust and his energy, help and
support was vital to its formation.
As artist David Shepherd, CBE, says: “Gordon was fanatical
in his dedication to do what he could to preserve this beautiful countryside of
ours with its diversity of plants and birds, the beauty of which he portrayed
with such a delicate touch in his lovely watercolours. We all miss this very
dear man and this book is a fitting tribute to his work as an artist and a
conservationist and, to me a very true and special friend”.
A few hardback copies left – orders will be dealt with on a first come
first served basis.
